The night watch

Prayer life of the Monk of the Little Family of the Exodus culminates in the long night watch, which begins at 9 pm and terminates at 2 am. Until the end of Holy Mass, ie midnight, the Chapel’s door will stay open to whom would share this experience of prayer. The Monks will have in mind the Scripture’s words:

“Rise up, shrill in the night,
at the beginning of every watch;
Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord;
Lift up your hands to him
for the lives of your little ones
who faint from hunger at the corner of every street” (Lam 2, 19).

Therefore, the Form of Life reads:
“Following the example of Jesus (see Lk 6,12) they will spend part of their night in prayer, opening such an experience to sharing with brethren who may need or wish a time of silent and more intense communion with the Lord, as well as listening the Saint Spirit’s voice, who sanctifies enlivens everything”.

This is because night, waiting for the day, is a sign of earthly life that is going towards the blessed vision of the face of God: “Watchman, how much longer the night? (Is, 21,11). “At midnight, there was a cry, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'”. (Mt 25,6).
